Crypto social-analytics terms

Plain-English definitions of the sentiment, attention, and market terms behind Ruma’s tools — each linked to a live index where one exists.

Crypto Fear & Greed Index

A 0–100 score summarising the overall emotion of the crypto market, from Extreme Fear (0) to Extreme Greed (100). Ruma builds it from social sentiment, social interest, price momentum, volatility, and emotional intensity — weighted toward social intelligence.

Crypto Market Sentiment

A market-wide measure of how bullish or bearish the crypto conversation is, scored 0–100 from LLM analysis of millions of social posts classified as bullish, bearish, or neutral. It measures mood rather than price.

Mindshare

A token’s share of all crypto social attention — the percentage of relevant posts that are about it. Rising mindshare shows a token is capturing narrative and interest, which often precedes volume and price.

Altcoin Season

A period when altcoins broadly outperform Bitcoin. Ruma’s attention-based Altcoin Season Index measures it live from the share of top tokens gaining social mindshare faster than Bitcoin: above 75 is altcoin season, below 25 is Bitcoin season.

Crypto KOL

A “key opinion leader” — an influential crypto account whose posts move attention and sentiment. Ruma ranks KOLs by their share of the conversation and, where they make calls, by accuracy and win rate.

Social Sentiment

The bullish/bearish tone of the crypto conversation, scored by large language models that read each post for stance and context rather than counting keywords. Sentiment can diverge from price — bullish chatter can persist through a dip.

Smart Money

The subset of accounts whose historical calls have been most accurate. Tracking what smart money is saying — versus the broader crowd — helps separate signal from noise in social data.

Social Volume

The raw amount of social activity about a token — how many posts mention it in a given period. Spikes in social volume often accompany breaking narratives and catalysts.

Narrative Rotation

The movement of attention between themes and tokens over time — for example from AI tokens to memecoins to RWAs. Because attention leads price, spotting rotation early is a core edge.

Emotional Intensity

The extremity of emotions in the conversation across Ruma’s 15-emotion model — capturing the euphoria and panic that tend to precede market reversals.
