FAQFrequently asked questions
What is the Altcoin Season Index?
The Altcoin Season Index is a 0–100 score that tells you whether altcoins or Bitcoin are winning crypto's attention. A reading of 75 or above means it's altcoin season (altcoins are outperforming Bitcoin); 25 or below means it's Bitcoin season. As of July 4, 2026, Ruma's index reads 55 — Neutral.
Are we in altcoin season right now?
Not clearly — as of July 4, 2026, the index is 55 (neutral). Attention is split between Bitcoin and altcoins with no decisive rotation.
How is Ruma’s Altcoin Season Index different from the classic one?
The widely-known altcoin season index is based on 90-day price performance and updates slowly. Ruma’s is based on social mindshare — how attention is rotating in real time — so it reacts to narrative shifts before they show up in price, and it updates hourly.
What is altcoin season?
Altcoin season (“altseason”) is a period when altcoins broadly outperform Bitcoin. Traders watch for it because capital and attention rotate out of Bitcoin and into altcoins, often producing sharp altcoin rallies.
How is the index calculated?
Ruma takes the 50 largest tokens (excluding Bitcoin, stablecoins, and BTC/ETH wrappers), compares each one’s change in social mindshare to Bitcoin’s, and reports the share that are gaining attention faster than Bitcoin as a 0–100 score.
